Because I live at home, you will see and hear a lot about my family, so it is only fair you know a little about them.
This is all of us still at home; I have two older brothers who have moved out…more on them later. Here’s a bit about our family as a whole:
- We were all home-schooled, so we are all very close and have a unique family culture.
- We all share a love of books – in varying degrees – but I think almost all of us wouldn’t be found on a trip without some sort of literature (e-book, audiobook, print, blogs via phone, etc.) to read in our spare time.
- We love to quote from movies and books in our conversations, and this is perhaps the most overtly obvious, as well as one of the most annoying things about us, to which I am sure our friends and family can attest. 😛
- We are almost all introverted, which lends to a bit of awkwardness in new situations.
- We are fairly non-traditional, and we tend to be very analytical
- We built a chicken coop from scratch, which was a TON of work, but we made some very good memories! (Annnd we aren’t getting anymore chickens…we are thinking about remodeling it to be a dog kennel so that the dogs can have a bit more room to stretch out when we are gone for the day.)
We are all very different people, so let me give you a little tour of my family:
They are the coolest parents on planet earth! They give advice, and their opinion, but are very good about letting us make decisions for ourselves. My mom was a self-proclaimed granola when she was younger, and I think some of that isn’t fully gone. 😛 She is a master organizer, and the research queen. If we ever want to know something, she will have the answer in record time, and can find stuff with ease that we could spend hours looking for with no luck. My dad is a software engineer, who used to work for Microsoft, but is now free from that, and works for a small, but growing company called Tableau Software. (They write software that turns data into cool looking graphs and charts…or something like that. =S) He is very tech-savvy, and can solve pretty much any problem any of us might have. We joke that all we have to do to get our computer or other device to start working is to call him over, and it will start behaving. 😀
Hannah is my older sister. She is the resident foodie, and
she convinces me I beg her to let me share in her food experiments, because she and I have very similar tastes. In fact, we have a lot of things in common. Besides being a kitchen ninja, she has a private blog that she writes for the purpose of encouraging and connecting with our extended family. She is awesome at putting her feelings into words, and I have quoted her in my journal on several occasions. 🙂
Katie is my younger sister. She is a writer, and her dream is to maybe sometime self-publish her work <- her wording, not mine. In my opinion, she could totally sometime be a published author…but that’s just my opinion. 😀 She is very into Medieval stuff; she can’t learn too much about it, and has listened to lectures, read countless books, and watched a couple shows on the era. She loves to dress up (and is good at it!), and she has even made a cloak for herself and Luke! She is a nature girl, and loves to be in the great outdoors whenever possible.
Gotta love that picture… 😀 Luke is the youngest. He is very artistic, and while he is good at drawing, recently he has gotten more into graphic design, and he wants to be a video game graphic design artist. He is also hoping to get into agility with his newly adopted dog, Keely. He is always willing to help around the house, no matter what the task, and he will help by being sous chef for Hannah, or helping our mom/dad with projects around the house.
The moved-out fam…
Ben, Lynn & Allen
Ben is the oldest of us kids, and he met his wife, Lynn, at the University of Idaho in 2009. They got married in January 2011, and now they live in New York (state, not city!) with their 3 year-old son, Allen. Ben is an engineer, and Lynn is an artist. Allen is a cute little kid, planning to take the coffee world by storm at some point with his concoctions. 🙂
(picture of Peter is pending…it is hard to find a good, up-to-date picture of that boy!)
Peter is the second oldest, and he is renting an apartment about 30 minutes (or so) away from where we live. Despite this, we don’t see him very often, but it is nice that he is able to pop over for birthdays and such. He is currently working for an ambulance company, a hospital, and volunteering at a local fire department, but he wants to be a professional firefighter. He is very passionate about fitness, and is into CrossFit, weight lifting, and gymnastic stuff. (At least, I think… I may have out-dated information! 😛 ) He has turned into the cool dude of the family, but he is still an Andrews <-another name for geek… down inside! 😛
Now for some fun group photos; at first we look like a normal family…
The three girls.
The four at-home kids…We love each other…most of the time! 😀 😛 (Yes, this was before Luke had hair!! ;P) )
Then you see us how we really are…. (Ari caught this candid. She did not have us pose this!)
And in case that last picture wasn’t enough to convince you, how about this one? The back-story here is that we were trying to replicate a picture my mom had snapped about 14 years ago of us four. We are all a lot bigger now, so it was harder, but we all loved the picture that came out. It is probably one of my favorites of the four of us, although it looks a little weird if you don’t know the story! 😀
*Most of the photos on this page were taken by Ariana Johnson. Thanks Ari, for your beautiful work! (The exceptions are Luke’s picture, taken by Hannah; the photos of Ben’s family, taken by Keilah, another friend of ours; and the picture of the pin, taken by yours truly. 😀 )
